The proposed cycle trail will run from Horeke in the west located on the upper reaches of the Hokianga harbour, through Kaikohe the heart of Ngapuhi, and on to Opua located on the Bay of Islands. See the map showing the proposed route supplied by the Ministry of Tourism.

This section of the Kaikohe web site is devoted to keeping the community informed of progress in this exciting development. It is also intended as a forum for community feedback regarding ideas and concepts that those working on the project may have not yet considered.

by John Vujcich
Can I encourage readers to contribute their thoughts regarding the Cycle Trail. These can be anything from ideas that make the trail something that will encourage people to come from all over New Zealand to experience, to ideas for creating local employment, or simply comments of support as some readers have already provided below.

ON YOUR BIKE!

by Wayne Brown
Last Saturday I had the pleasure of leading off a great happy mob of cyclists in the Kaikohe Mayoral Cycling challenge, a fun event organized by Sport Northland and supported by FNDC, to be repeated next Saturday in Mangonui and again next Sunday in Kerikeri. Something to get on your bike about

by Joe Carr
The 86 km Bay of Islands to Hokianga coast to coast trail has the huge potential to become an iconic trail for local, national and international users. The success of the cycle/walkway will come down to the people and what they contribute to the trail. The Board approved the project in principle and approved a set aside a small amount of money to hold in reserve to support community initiatives. The Board then proceeded to identify all land holders adjacent to the rail corridor to ascertain their thoughts about the proposal.
