CYCLEWAY PROGRESS
Community Feedback on the Cyle Trail
by John Vujcich
A number of people from the community have expressed a desire to see the Cycle Trail progress and several ideas have been suggested on how we can make the Trail truly remarkable.
Thank's Mayor for yor update on the Cycle Trail. Can I encourage readers to contribute their thoughts regarding the Cycle Trail. These can be anything from ideas that make the trail something that will encourage people to come from all over New Zealand to experience, to ideas for creating local employment, or simply comments of support as some readers have already provided below.
For example: one suggestion is to make the trail a wildlife corridor by planting native food bearing plants and trees along the trail.
Please add your thoughts and comments below.

In addition to this trail being for recreation, fun, events etc... I can imagine it also having a very useful transport function. We have very little in the way of public transport up here. Our roads are far too dangerous for cycling... Perhaps this cycle way could also become a useful through route when petrol prices begin to climb.

Joe,
Great comment thanks. Your comment has been passed onto those involved with the track. They have also been getting advice from those who established the Otago trail and the imporatnace of hosting events was also raised by them.

Hello,
I was thinking whether you could turn this into a annual big race.. This could bring people all over, thus boosting the economy. When I say big race, I mean something that would get, the likes of red bull.. Something with a big name/sponsorship would defantly attract loads of people from all round.
I suppose if this doesnt tickle your fancy doing the same but with motorbikes or down hill mtn biking. As you are aware of all the rev heads in Kaikohe not to mention Northland.
From a marketing perspective, anything that can motivate people to particapate is money, or in this case Prize money. You may have to look at it at a 5-7 yr project to snowball the funds to make a larger & larger amounts of money each year. If you were to just have Prize money that was a small amount, no one will waste there time. Spend heaps of money the first, and you might have positive results.
Let me know if any of this feedback is relivant to what you are trying to get at. I am really interested in getting Kaikohe back to what it was like when the Freezing works was booming.
Cha Joe Kaka
